Rocker was photographed in 2008 on location at the remarkable Southside House in Wimbledon. Throughout my career I have often been drawn to shooting in unusual locations — whether that be dilapidated houses, pubs and bathrooms, or beautiful historic homes and grand hotels. I’ve always felt that the right environment brings a certain energy to a shoot, helping to spark imagination and shape the narrative of the image.
Southside House was the perfect setting. A striking and charismatic historic home, it was once frequented by Admiral Nelson and Lady Hamilton, and its atmosphere added a distinct character to the photograph.
As with any successful shoot, everything has to come together — the location, wardrobe, hair and make-up, and most importantly the people involved. When everyone is working in the same spirit, the images tend to find their own rhythm.
